In 1792, the impact of the Revolution was felt in the outskirts of Hoyoux. The last of the Montmorencys, owners of the castle, feared for the safety of some of the treasures housed at Modave. Local history recounts that he was particularly attached to twelve silver statues representing the Hours. These were powerful works of art, wonderfully sculpted.
One night in 1792, M. de Montmorency, accompanied by five trusty men, fled into the depths of the woods in the vast hundred hectare park and hid the twelve silver statues. The treasures were never dug up and the earth guards its secret to this day.
Montmorency died without having opened up the hiding place. One after the other, the nocturnal collaborators passed away. None of the three were willing to tell ... And when the fourth lay on his deathbed, around 1850, he too was urged to reveal the hiding place. But he turned his face to the wall, saying « Les aut's sont mwerts sins rin dire. D'ji n'dirai rin nin pus ... » (The others died without telling, so I'm not saying anything either).
