Meet Auguste Rodin

The attractions of Mariemont park are not exclusively botanical. Raoul Warocqué was fond of adorning it with statues and bas-reliefs which he commissioned in particular from the sculptor, Jef Lambeaux, whom he specially admired. There is also a version of the famous Bourgeois de Calais by Auguste Rodin, a work by Victor Rousseau, le Semeur by Constantin Meunier, not to mention large bronzes bought in Japan.

One of the most beautiful parks in Wallonia
At the heart of the Central Region, the park offers a breath of fresh air to walkers. The site contains the third largest botanical collection in Wallonia, with about 2000 different taxa.

Everyone is welcome!

Family visits: with its winding walks, castle ruins, havens of peace and an outstanding museum, it has all the ingredients for a fascinating family afternoon out.

Garden lovers: this park owes its origin to Nicolas Warocqué, the founder of a famous industrialist dynasty. In 1829, he bought part of the Forest of Mariemont to have a castle built and a twenty-seven hectare park laid out. The nucleus was designed in 1832 by Charles-Henri Petersen, modelled on the English gardens of the period, where the subtle alternating of lawns, lakes, and massed foliage, criss-crossed by winding paths, sought to echo the natural character of the wooded site.

First visit to an "outstanding" garden: Mariemont park is one of the most beautiful in Belgium. Completely enclosed behind walls, it covers an area of 45 hectares, to which must be added the main walk, the so-called tree-lined avenue of Mariemont, and the orchards extending 35 metres on either side. Don't miss this amazing attraction!
